ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith: ‘It’s pretty tough to be a superstar’
A few weeks ago, Stephen A Smith took to Instagram to talk about the current state of the NBA.
At the time, he said the Warriors’ success is due in part to its coaching staff.
“When we have a team that has a coach who can play point guard, it gives us more freedom to play more ball and play harder,” Smith wrote.
“It also gives us the opportunity to have players who want to play the game.
I think we have that.”
He added that he was also thankful for the new culture the Warriors have created.
“There are a lot of players who are coming back from injury who have played in the league, who are still on their teams,” Smith said.
“I think it’s pretty hard to be an elite player without having someone to step up and do it for you.”
That’s a sentiment echoed by other stars who were also on the receiving end of Smith’s tweet.
LeBron James echoed Smith’s sentiments.
“Being a star is a lot easier when you can get someone like Stephen A to coach you, I think,” James said.
In other words, if you have someone to take care of you and feed you, you will always be able to do well.
The Warriors are on their way to a 41-25 record, their best start since 2011.
They have won five straight, their most since 2008.
James said he is still trying to figure out what it was that brought the team to that point, but said he feels good about the team and their chances for the playoffs.
“We’re a team of superstars, and we’re gonna be the best team that we can be,” James told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols.
“The last few weeks, the playoffs have been good for us, and it’s going to take a lot to get over here.”
